How Montessori Is Changing the Way We View Early Childhood Education

Montessori education has grown increasingly popular in recent years among parents seeking a kind and respectful environment for their children—one that nurtures independence, natural curiosity, and a joyful desire to explore the world.

This approach was developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori, based on years of observing children. She paid close attention to their needs, developmental stages, and innate drive to learn. The result is a thoughtfully prepared environment that supports not only intellectual growth, but also movement, sensory development, social skills, and the ability to concentrate.

What does a day in a Montessori preschool look like?

When you enter a Montessori classroom, you’ll likely be surprised by the sense of calm and focus. Children move freely around the room, each engaged in an activity they have chosen themselves.

They work independently, in pairs, with the teacher, or in small groups. They build words, work with maps, pour water, or set the table, for example. The materials they use are thoughtfully designed, mostly made from natural materials.

Children learn everyday life skills—cooking, caring for the environment, plants, animals, and themselves. In language and math, they use specific tools like sandpaper letters, wooden spindles, and colored beads. All senses are engaged through special didactic materials. Children learn about animals, the universe, and continents.

Montessori = A school for life

Children learn concentration, empathy, independence, and respect. They build a community where they collaborate, help each other, and resolve conflicts calmly and with understanding. Older children naturally guide the younger ones.

Why start exactly at the preschool age?

A child up to 6 years old goes through so-called sensitive periods — during this time, the brain is exceptionally receptive. If the child has a stimulating and respectful environment, they develop a natural relationship to learning and skills that will accompany them throughout their life.

Montessori Preschool Monteschool – Opening in September 2025

In September 2025, we are opening Monteschool Preschool in a quiet part of Újezd nad Lesy (Prague 21). We offer children a safe space, freedom of choice, and gentle guidance towards responsibility. Our preschool is bilingual – children are exposed daily to both Czech and English thanks to the presence of two teachers. We focus on an individual approach and respect for the uniqueness of each child.

If you are looking for a preschool where your child will feel accepted and can grow at their own pace, come and visit us. Write to us at info@monteschool.cz.

We invite you to a creative Montessori afternoon on July 23, 2025, starting at 4 PM!
On the preschool garden, creative stations will be set up for children, with the opportunity to try out Montessori materials.
Parents can take a look inside our newly established preschool and get acquainted with its environment.

Come and enjoy a pleasant afternoon full of inspiration with your children. We look forward to seeing you!
