Our first Montessori seminar for parents: How does Montessori prepare children for life?

At our Monteschool preschool, we recently held an inspiring Montessori seminar for parents, where we invited Hana Slabá – a Montessori expert, mentor, author of the book Montessori Preschool, and organizer of educational webinars.

Hana Slabá began her lecture with an interesting reflection: as humanity, we continuously advance in science and technology, yet the education system has remained almost unchanged since the Industrial Revolution—we still learn in classrooms following the same model.

However, Montessori education offers a different approach that respects a child’s natural development and individual learning pace.

Why are the first six years of life crucial?

The period up to six years of age is the most crucial for a child’s development. During this time, the brain undergoes massive growth, and the child learns through an absorbent mind, naturally taking in everything around them.

Montessori education, therefore, focuses on a prepared environment that allows the child to explore the world independently and according to their current needs.

How does it work in a Montessori preschool?

During the seminar, we explored how Montessori classrooms function and the areas in which children are educated:

Practical Life – Children learn everyday skills such as pouring water, buttoning clothes, and sweeping, which develop their independence and coordination.

Sensorial Education – Through games and materials, they explore colors, shapes, scents, sounds, and different textures, enhancing their perception of the world.

Language Education – They get familiar with letters, words, and reading using specialized tools that help expand their vocabulary and comprehension.

Mathematics – They work with concrete materials, such as counting beads, to understand quantities, counting, and basic math concepts.

Cosmic Education – They explore the world around them, learning about nature, animals, the universe, history, and different cultures.

Introducing Monteschool

During the seminar, we introduced parents to our newly emerging Montessori preschool, Monteschool. Our vision is to create a kind and safe environment where children can develop naturally.

What can children look forward to?

  • A specially prepared Montessori environment with low shelves and educational materials.

  • Kind and respectful teachers.

  • A community of like-minded parents who share similar values.

  • A bilingual environment.

We believe that the preschool and parents are partners, which is why Monteschool will offer:

  • Educational workshops for parents.

  • Observation days, where parents can spend a morning in the classroom.

  • Fun events, such as Halloween craft workshops, Christmas gatherings, an Easter market, and a summer celebration.

Answers to Common Parent Questions

During the seminar, many interesting questions were raised, such as:

  • Why is it so quiet in Montessori classrooms? Is it enforced?

  • Why don’t children work together in a circle but instead individually or in small groups?

  • What does a typical preschool day look like?

  • How do we handle healthy nutrition, safety, the number of teachers, and class capacity?

  • How does the child’s adaptation process work?

Why is it quiet in Montessori classrooms?

Silence in a Montessori classroom is a natural result of the environment and the way children work, not something that is forced. Children focus deeply on their activities because they have the freedom to choose work that genuinely interests them. Montessori materials are designed to support independent, deep concentration, which naturally leads to a calm atmosphere.

Moreover, respect for others is a fundamental principle in Montessori education. Children learn that when someone is working, they do not disturb them. This means that teachers do not impose silence through strict rules, but rather, children naturally adopt a peaceful working environment as something enjoyable and beneficial.

Parents were interested in the preschool’s organizational aspects, such as the daily schedule. The Montessori preschool Monteschool will be open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we will soon publish a detailed schedule of daily activities on our website.

Another common question was about healthy nutrition, safety, the number of teachers, and preschool capacity. We are currently exploring the best options for healthy, ideally organic food for the children. Safety is our priority—each classroom will have a team of three teachers for 20 children, the main gate will be secured with a code, and the doors will remain locked outside of pick-up times.

Parents also asked about the gentle adaptation process. This is a key focus for us, as a child’s first experiences in preschool shape their attitude toward education for years to come. We want both children and parents to go through the adaptation process with confidence and peace of mind.

And that’s exactly why we have prepared a free e-book on gentle adaptation, which will help you navigate the first days of preschool without tears. You can download it on our website HERE.
